Meet the dedicated team at Valley Mountains Library
Administration
Sarah Mitchell
Library Director
Sarah has led Valley Mountains Library for eight years, overseeing its transformation from a traditional lending library to a vibrant community hub. She holds an MLS from Syracuse University and previously served as assistant director at the Middletown Thrall Library.
James manages adult programming, the reference collection, and reader advisory services. A former English professor, he brings a deep love of literature and a knack for connecting people with their next great read.
Maria joined the team in early 2026 from the Brooklyn Public Library, where she developed bilingual story time programs. She holds an MLS from Pratt Institute and is passionate about early literacy and inclusive programming.
Emily keeps the library running smoothly behind the scenes, managing holds, interlibrary loans, and the circulation team. She has been with Valley Mountains Library for twelve years and knows every corner of the collection.
Lisa connects the library with the broader Maplewood community through partnerships, events, and outreach programs. She coordinates the Homebound Delivery Service and the new community garden initiative.
Robert is our go-to person for research questions, genealogy help, and local history. He manages the reference desk and our growing local history collection, and leads popular genealogy workshops.
David manages the library's public computers, Wi-Fi network, and digital resources. He leads Tech Help Hours every Tuesday and is always happy to help patrons get comfortable with new technology.
Aisha runs the library's teen programs, including Gaming Night, the Teen Advisory Board, and the summer teen reading challenge. She has a background in youth development and believes libraries should be a safe, fun space for teens.
